Nickel Exposure Test Series 2
Procedure:
Testing was performed on one M31 TiN coated magnet and one M36 TiN coated magnet. One nickel coated magnet was used as a control. Units were immersed in a saturated solution of 10ml of 10% Ammonia and Dimethylglyoxime at 22.2 C. At each time point, units were removed from solution and dried prior to being photographed. At hour 6, a surfactant was added to solution to ameliorate any surface shielding due to surface tension.

The nickel coated control unit immediately precipitated a rose-red coating of Ni(DMG)2. After a full coating of precipitate on the nickel unit was observed at minute 10, no further exposure tests were performed. After hour six, a surfactant was added to alleviate surface tension. Neither the M36 or M31 magnet caused formation of precipitate at any time during the procedure. These results are consistent with both tested units having a continuous and unimpaired coating of TiN. Results are consistent with Test Series 1, in which units were exposed for as long as 168 Hours without any precipitate forming.
